2019 - The Year of the New
A year brought to us by the letters N-E-W - new recruits, new studio, a new human being, and of course new projects for everyone.
And that’s just for starters.
This month marks our 4th birthday, and while we’re older, wiser (stop laughing at the back there) and deeper staffed than we were when we started out, things have been remained Busy with a capital WTF...
Projects
"Good work comes from good people"
Once again, this year we have worked with some absolutely brilliant, driven and inspiring clients on projects, great and small - continuing to help established clients (the OGs know who they are) and winning shiny new ones in diverse areas like tourism, food & drink, architecture, homebuilding, retail, media, oil & gas and professional services.
Good work comes from good people, and we’re privileged to have relationships with passionate and dedicated folks who care about getting things right and push us as a Studio to do good work every day.
Team++
We welcomed several new faces to Team FortyTwo in 2019, all of whom were tasked with one singular goal - make us better.
Suffice to say, they’re rising to that challenge.
"Younger than some of Mark's Adidas trainers..."
In January, we welcomed Claire Bolland as our new Account Manager (here’s a Say Hello blog if you want to know more) and then at the beginning of September, with our Alex going off on maternity leave, we welcomed in Andy Lorimer as Artworker. Both brilliant people, with strong experience and much to offer.
In mid-September, it was double trouble with the arrival of Designer (and former FortyTwo placement!) Hannah Sneddon and Marketing Specialist James Erwin - boosting our graphic design and digital marketing offering substantially.
Lastly (but not least-ly), our Web Dev crew has been bolstered by the addition of Andrej Szalma - a young developer who seems to get better at building websites every day and is younger than some of Mark’s Adidas trainers!
The like-minded and multi-talented
Also a shout out to those incredible collaborators, conspirators and fellow good-eggs Lateral North, Jonathan Addie, Steve Smith, Ray Smith, Grant Anderson, Eddie Philips, Cairn57, TVP, Lisa Thompson, Fedrigoni, Laura Hurn, Zoe Buyers, Lewis Whibley, GDFS, Calum Wood, Winter and SImpson, Compass Print, Cairn 57.
Baby Yara
Remember when we mentioned that maternity leave that Alex went on?
Well, in October, we all got to meet the first FortyTwo Baby - Yara Rose - and she’s an absolute darling. We were all so happy for our friend and colleague Alex on her beautiful daughter and we can’t wait to see her grow up to be just like her mummy.
Getting Involved
It’s something we strongly believe in here at FortyTwo.
2019 was no exception, and we know that spending time working with and for Aberdeen’s creative communities has real benefits for us.
"Growing our own wood"
Talking to students, delivering live projects at GDFS, engaging with local organisations and taking on work placements and interns from around the globe are all part of our wider interest in making sure that Aberdeen retains fresh talent and develops its creative culture.
‘Growing our own wood’, as it were, is something that helps us directly too - our new Designer Hannah, for example, did a placement with us in her student days and Designer Jill is also a former intern for Mark and Sam at their previous agency.
It’s more important than ever that Aberdeen grows beyond its reputation creatively - and builds a new one that rivals other major cities in Scotland and beyond. We are determined to be part of that, and help stoke the fire.
35 & Big Plans
It’s been the worst-kept secret in town for some time, but we’ve got plans to make a move early next year.
FortyTwo will move to a new home in 2020, and with more space and capability comes big opportunities that we hope can benefit the many across Aberdeen’s creative sector.
More will be revealed soon, stay tuned.
