Say Hello...Ryan Roberts
Name: Ryan Roberts
Role: Web Developer
Since: The olden days
WokWok Order: 93
For those who don’t know give us a quick rundown of what you do:
Put simply, I take websites the designers create as graphics and turn them into fully functional websites you can see and use.
Despite a primary focus on frontend (what you see in the browser) development I will often continue the process at the backend (what you don’t see in the browser) to make a fully functional website our clients can manage themselves. Aside from that I investigate new technologies and how we can make use of them, maintain our own web development framework for building sites, help clients out when they’re stuck and provide guidance through all stages of a project; brief through to launch and maintenance.
Favourite aspect of your job:
Seeing a new website go from absolutely nothing, to launching it live and getting happy feedback from clients. Being the bridge between visual design and backend technology is quite fun.
What do you like doing when you’re not in the studio?
Taking photos of my dogs. Walking hills with my dogs. Playing with my dogs. Did I mention my dogs? Sometimes you’ll also find me running or brewing a damn fine cup of coffee.
Tell us a wee something about you that folks might not know and or care about.
In 2010 (ish) I decided to start running, my lungs burned and I honestly struggled to run for a full sixty seconds. Five years on I ran the Glencoe Marathon and then later that year I stepped it up with the Speyway Ultra Marathon — 37 miles in under 6 hours. Other than that I try not to be too interesting or it may draw the attention of the aliens.
