Made in Aberdeen is a documentation of the city's culture and heritage

Aberdeen City Council wanted to celebrate the rich culture, diversity and heritage that the City of Aberdeen encapsulates. To punctuate the end of the long running project FortyTwo were commissioned to curate, conceive and design the final photo book.

With creative control throughout the collaborative process - we had a lot of important elements to balance, from commissioned photography through to bespoke storytelling. We aimed to match the varied photographic styles and the playful script with a dynamic layout and typography that evoked the spoken words.

Making full use of print processes and binding techniques,  "Made in Aberdeen" will be available through all city libraries as well as being gifted by the Lord Provost to visiting dignitaries and diplomats. This design project received a Platinum Award at the 2016 MARcom Awards.

With three photographers commissioned to document the city and it's inhabitants, we worked alongside copyrighter Neil Cargill to create a dynamic and engaging layout that would bring the words and images of the Granite City to life.

With a custom production spec, specialist finishes and papers, we aimed to make the book a design piece in its own right.
